Back in the days before mobile phones were invented and the internet was commonplace, you were stuck in a world where you would have to call someone back if they weren’t in. And leaving the office for any reason meant that there was always a chance you would miss that all important call you were waiting for.
Just imagine a business that operated on those same terms nowadays. You’ve got used to a society where everything is available now – and that includes business services. It’s vital that you are as connected as you can be to what is going on, otherwise you could lose business to your competition without even realising it.
Of course if you run a large business with a significant web presence you may well have other people working for you who can be there to take orders twenty four hours a day. Handling problems is also made easier when you have staff to fall back on. But where does that leave smaller businesses?
It’s probably easier than ever to run a business on your own, thanks to the level of modern technology available. But what happens when you need to leave your office? Are you prepared to handle any emergencies or answer any urgent questions at any point? If you’re not, there’s never been a better time to think about overhauling the way you work.
You are certainly contactable if you have your mobile phone with you. But what about checking your emails? This might be possible from certain mobile phone handsets but it isn’t very practical for many businesses. And if you rely on emails to and from your clients or customers for the bulk of your business, you need to keep abreast of what is going on at all times.
A laptop is almost essential when you are on the move, since it enables you to perform certain tasks outside of your office. If you are going on a train journey to meet a client for example, you can prepare for the journey by allocating work to do during that time.
But for many businesses that rely on the internet to bring them customers and orders, being able to access the internet while you are out and about is almost essential. What’s more, it can enable you to process orders and queries more readily.
Mobile broadband will ensure you can keep on top of your emails no matter where you are. Not only can you make your time out of the office more productive, it also means you won’t arrive back to a deluge of emails to go through before you can start work again.
In short, it’s clear that being connected has many benefits – both for you and your clients.
